Invitation to January planning meeting on January 23, 2015
Hi folks, You are cordially invited to attend the next planning meeting for NVDA tenth anniversary events and NVDACon 2016 scheduled for April 2016. This meeting, to be held on January 23rd, is designed to hear comments and suggestions regarding these events, especially as we enter planning phase for NVDACon 2016.
The agenda is as follows: · Call to order (Joseph Lee, planning committee chair) · Chair’s report on planning and outreach progress. · Reports from members on their areas of specialty such as academic outreach. · NVDACon 2016 discussions (speakers, session dates); dates to be finalized during the January meeting. · Discussion on other tenth anniversary events. · Open forum. · Setting the next meeting date and adjournment.
To accommodate participants from around the world, we will meet twice.
The meeting details are as follows: · Date: January 23, 2016. · Location: NVDA Korea TeamTalk channel (www.nvda-kr.org; see http://www.nvda-kr.org/en/nvdacon.php for more information on how to join). · Session 1: 8 AM Pacific (11 AM Eastern, 1600 UTC): Europe, North and South America, Middle East and Africa. · Session 2: 8 PM Pacific (11 PM Eastern, 0400 UTC on 24th): Western North and South America, Pacific islands and Australia, Asia.
Anyone interested in helping plan various anniversary events are more than welcome to participate. Note that it is crucial for members of the planning committee (members of the NvDACon list) to come to this meeting so planners can listen to diverse comments and suggestions. Once the meetings are over, the chair (Joseph) will send a report to both the main NVDACon list and the announcements list on topics discussed during the meeting.
Thank you, and hope to see you on the 23rd.
Sincerely, Joseph S. Lee Chair, NVDA Tenth Anniversary Planning Committee

Chair's report: ongoing event promotions
Dear members of the NVDA Tenth Anniversary Committee, NVDA users, developers, supporters and others:
My name is Joseph Lee, the chair of the NVDA Tenth Anniversary Planning Committee. I'd like to first wish you a happy new year. May 2016 be a wonderful year for you all. I'd like to give you some status update regarding planning for various NVDA events throughout 2016: * NVDACon: After consulting NV Access and others, it was decided to be held in April 2016. Although we don't know where, we are given an opportunity broadcast at least the keynote session from NV Access staff. * NVDACon promotions and sponsorships: Currently I've asked American Council of the Blind (ACB) and Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB) about helping us promote our event and possibly becoming event sponsors. So far, I have received a word from one of the leaders of ACB asking if for more details and said ACB Radio could stream at least the keynote session of NVDACon. I have also asked our Twitter followers to ask blindness organizations around the world to help promote or become sponsors for our events (at least NVDACon). * NVDA Planning Committee meeting on January 23, 2016: To give you more details on what's going on and to receive input from members of our committee and from the public, NVDA Tenth Anniversary Planning Committee will hold our planning meeting on January 23rd. To accomodate various time zones, two sessions will be held. Our meeting place will be NVDA Korea TeamTalk server (more details will be announced soon), the same place we had NVDACon 2015.2. Please continue to stay tuned for more reports and updates. As always, your comments and highly appreciated - you can send them to me at nvdacon+owner@groups.io or via Twitter at @joslee. Thanks, and please continue to spread word about our events and help us celebrate an important milestone in NVDA's history. Sincerely, Joseph S. Lee Chair, NVDA Tenth Anniversary Planning Committee PddS. I'll be on vacation until January 9th, thus may not be able to respond to emails quickly. Thanks.

FW: For Jeff and other ACB leadership and members: Promoting and sponsoring NVDACon 2016 and other celebratory events to mark NVDA's tenth anniversary
Hi folks, One of the leadership members of the American Council of the Blind would like to ask what ACB can do. So far, I have request broadcast of NVDACon 2016 keynote session via ACB Radio. Please let me know if we need other assistance from ACB. Below is the correspondence I had with Jeff Bishop from ACB. If you need to write to him directly, please send an email to the address below (be sure to introduce yourself as the member of the NVDA Tenth Anniversary Planning Committee). P.S. A small favor: could someone who knows people at National Federation of the Blind (NFB), can you send a letter similar to what I wrote to ACB in hopes of partnering with NFB for our events? Also, it would be great if people from other countries could write to blindness organizations in your country requesting promotions and/or sponsorship for at least NVDACon 2016. Please let them know that they can contact me if they have any questions. Cheers, Joseph

Can you tell me in what ways you would like our involvement (dollars, broadcasting using ACB Radio, etc.)?
From: Joseph Lee [mailto:joseph.lee22590@...]
Hi Jeff, This is Joseph from various NVDA lists. As you directed me on Twitter on the New Year’s Day regarding promoting NVDA events to American Council of the Blind members, I’m sending an official email to seek help from ACB regarding promoting and sponsoring various celebratory events to mark NVDA’s tenth anniversary, including NVDACon 2016 scheduled for April 2016. The official letter is as follows (could you circulate this to ACB members please? Thank you):
To elected leaders and members of the American Council of the Blind:
My name is Joseph Lee, a blind college student from California and one of the contributors to NonVisual Desktop Access (NVDA) screen reader project. On behalf of other NVDA developers, I would like to wish you happy New Year. May 2016 be a great year for the Council as you work towards promoting greater accessibility and inclusion for blind people in the United States. I would like to ask for help from American Council of the Blind in promoting and/or sponsoring various NVDA events in 2016, especially NvDA Tenth Anniversary Conference (NVDACon 2016) and other events.
As you may know, many blind Americans and others around the world rely on computers for jobs, education and so on. Besides the braille system which was invented many years ago, computers and screen reading technology is considered the most essential tool that any blind people could have today. Yet to many, the high cost of screen reading packages means only a fraction of blind Americans have access to the vast ocean of information via this information highway that has revolutionized how people perform jobs, receive their degrees and so on.
About ten years ago, two blind men thought it wasn’t fair for a blind person to save up to a thousand dollars just to buy a screen reader. These gentlemen believed in equal access to technology, and ten years later, their efforts are starting to pay off. Their software is taking the blindness community by storm, and this screen reader, NVDA, has become an essential companion of tens of thousands of blind people around the world.
To help NV Access, the non-profit organization founded by these two men (Michael Curran and James Teh) celebrate NVDA’s tenth anniversary in 2016, I and other NVDA community members are organizing various events in 2016. Among these is NVDA Users and Developers Conference (NVDACon) 2016, scheduled to take place in April 2016. This year, NVDACon will feature a keynote presentation from NV Access and other events celebrating NVDA’s tenth anniversary, an important milestone not only for NVDA users, but also for blindness community in the United States and elsewhere. Other anniversary events include fundraising, outreach events designed to let sighted software developers partner with NV Access to improve accessibility of their products and more.
As a member of a software development team where collaboration is a norm, I believe it is important that collaboration between a user community, developers and consumer organizations is essential for success of a product, including a product that is now an integral part of blind consumers around the world. At the same time, I believe that we can use a free, open-source, community-driven screen reader as a role model of collaboration in product accessibility, how blind people can integrate into society and to serve as a case study on employment, education and advocacy. I believe that, as a highly respected advocacy organization, American Council of the Blind would be a good partner in promoting and sponsoring organizations and products devoted to equal access to technology, and to recognize what NVDA has done for the past ten years and to look ahead to the future of access technology.
On behalf of NVDA users and developers community, I would like to ask for ACB’s promotion and sponsorship of NVDA tenth anniversary celebrations in 2016, including NVDACon 2016. During NVDACon 2016, the organizers will recognize ACB’s sponsorship and promotions.
More information on NVDA and our celebrations can be found at the following pages: · NV Access: http://www.nvaccess.org · NVDA Tenth Anniversary Planning Committee mailing list: http://groups.io/g/nvdacon · NVDACon announcement list: http://groups.io/g/nvdacon-announce · NVDACon homepage: http://www.nvda-kr.org/en/nvdacon.php
Thank you, and I and other NVDA community members look forward to working with ACB in making these events a success. If you have any further questions, you can email me at joseph.lee22590@....
Sincerely, Joseph Lee Code contributor, translator and community add-ons reviewer, NVDA screen reader project Chair, NVDA Tenth Anniversary Planning Committee

Hmmm I think its either a saturday or sunday. If it is saturday its my mega gym day the morning is usually out. And after the session I am either out or sleeping. Sunday, I usually walk but it would depend when that was. if it was before 8 am in the morning there is a posibility I could be up maybe not fully concious but up.

Hi all, After considering comments regarding the date for our next meeting, I’d like to propose postponing our meeting date to January 23, 2015. Is this a good meeting date for you? In the meantime, we’ll continue to promote our events. Also, if you say we’re ready, we’d like to start discussing sessions for NvDACon 2016 and to start inviting some people as guest speakers (this is one of the things we need to discuss during our January meeting).
